Clinical stress tests are performed to find out the cause of the symptoms that occur during exercise. The most common reasons for exercise tests are respiratory, cardiac or overload symptoms.

Exercise spirometry

Exercise spirometry is a lung function test. The stress test combined with spirometry monitoring reliably measures bronchial reactivity and the effectiveness of asthma treatment.

The test includes

  • Resting heart film and blood pressure
  • Flow-volume spirometry
  • 6-8 minutes of supervised maximum effort running outside
  • Spirometry monitoring and bronchodilation test
  • Doctor’s assessment and treatment plan

Spiroergometry

Spiroergometry is a versatile test that reliably examines the response of the respiratory and circulatory system to load. This test is used to investigate and plan treatment for heart symptoms or overload symptoms and asthma.

The test includes

  • Resting heart film and blood pressure
  • Flow-volume spirometry
  • Increasing maximum load on a treadmill or bicycle ergometer
  • Exercise ECG
  • Breathing gas analysis
  • Blood lactate concentration
  • Spirometry monitoring and bronchodilation test
  • Doctor’s assessment and treatment plan
  • Feedback from an exercise physiologist

Appointment for spiroergometry only by phone.

Medication before a clinical test

If you do not have an asthma diagnosis

  • Do not use a medicine that opens the airways 24 hours before the test.
  • The use of cortisone medicine should be paused for 4 weeks.

If you have been diagnosed with asthma

  • You can continue to use the cortisone medicine normally.
  • Take a 24-hour break from Atrovent Eco and a 12-hour break from Ventoline before the test.

If you have received different instructions from your doctor regarding medication, follow them. You can also confirm the instructions by phone.
